“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” – Anonymous
In life, there are moments that define us—moments that test our spirit, shape our path, and remind us of the extraordinary power of kindness. For me, this moment came when I was 13. Navigating the aftermath of my parents’ divorce, I became a victim of child abuse that nearly cost me my eyesight. Just one day away from losing sight in one of my eyes, a teacher intervened, taking me to the nurse and ultimately to the hospital for emergency laser surgery that saved my vision.
But their compassion didn’t stop there. This teacher offered me stability, taking me into their home for a semester, until circumstances placed me in the foster care system for five years. Through their unwavering care, I found the strength to graduate high school and build a future that has allowed me to create impact across four Fortune 25 companies, a Fortune 500 company, and a small business over a three-decade career.
Now, I feel an immense sense of gratitude not only for the opportunities I’ve received but for the resilience those experiences instilled in me. One person’s selfless act transformed my life, inspiring me to pay it forward by giving others opportunities through my mission of “simplifying lifestyles” in every transaction.
This is a reminder for all of us: reflection allows us to appreciate where we’ve been, and gratitude shines a light on those who helped us get here. What’s one story or experience that shaped you and taught you the value of kindness? Let’s celebrate the power of care and connection together.
